Apologies, I missed the last race of the series. Here are the amended final results.

Congratulations to Dave Butters and Team Crackerjack. A great set of results.

As some of you may know, after 5 years skippering Vinyl Solutions, I shall not be sailing her next year so I hope someone will take over the results and occasional cryptic comment racing review for 2018.

All the best
William

Monday 14th April Youth Week

A beautiful evening with a warm SE 5-8 knot breeze as we welcomed new sailors from Parkstone Youth Week into the J24 fleet. Most boats were overloaded but I hope the youngsters enjoyed the experience. Despite our result, and the numerous mishaps on board Vinyl Solutions, our crew seemed to be keen to give it another try !!

Well done to Crackerjack, 1st win of the year, and to Jobs for the Buoys, who scored a great second.

Apologies for our absence, crew mutinied by going on holidays. Vinyl Solutions needed a good scrub and antifoul so raring to go now.

Monday 3rd July 2017

After two Mondays of drifting around the harbour and crawling over the finishing line, on Monday we were treated to a SW Force 4 which prompted our Race Officer to send us out to Branksome. Unfortunately for us this was the one time we, on Vinyl Solutions, were a little light on crew (actually we are always light, but this time we were only four up, so even lighter than usual). I like to get my excuses in early !!  Having competed quite favourably over the last few weeks we were actually a bit disappointed to be left so far behind, but a quite spectacular broach at Poole Head didn't exactly help. Character building stuff though !! Disappointed but not downhearted we joined the Class 2 finishers having watched the little white triangles of the J 24 fleet finishing more than a little while earlier!
Meanwhile, Wijit and Jolly Roger jostled with Flying Colours at the front end of the fleet in what was a great evening's sail.

Result:

1st 4235 Wijit
2nd 4270  Jolly Roger
3rd  4266 Flying Colours
4th 4263  Jobs for the Buoys
5th 4236 OJ
6th 4239  Zaphod
7th  4067  Vinyl Solutions

Monday 19th June 2017

Whilst the majority of the J24 fleet were enjoying Kiel Week four home loving crews were greeted by a gentle SE breeze which was threatening to become a zephyr. Wijit, Zaphod and Jobs for the Buoys set off for Bell race mark along the North Channel whilst us, the maverick youngsters, decided to visit Brownsea.
At first the tactic looked bad, then really good, and then we sailed into a hole, allowing all the others to pass. Zaphod rounded first.
The zephyr now turned to glass with the occasional puff. Each boat had her turn at the head of the fleet, as countless gybes were performed. Eventually Wijit took line honours from Jobs fir the Buoys leaving Zaphod to lead Vinyl Solutions across the line.

Monday 12th June 2017

Well, I thought it was very generous of us to mark the sandbank so the whole fleet could sail on by !!! Actually, if I was being honest, it was more of a case of the spinnaker pole having an argument with the genoa sheets thus preventing a speedy tack at Northshore Homes buoy. And we were doing so well up to that point too !!  I understand we were not the only ones to acquaint themselves with said shallows, as 4036 ex Owen's J, now skippered by Duncan McCarthy, also allowed Wijit to pass them at the same point , for the same reason, later in the contest.
However, a beautiful evening with a slightly gusty breeze, gave us all a great sail.

Result:
1st 4035  Wijit
2nd 4036  ??
3rd Crackerjack
4th Zaphod
5th Jobs for the Buoys
6th Vinyl Solutions

Monday 22nd May

A very fickle S / SW / WSW / W gentle breeze gusting to 10 knots (for everybody else of course !) greeted the 8 J24 starters on Monday. Plenty of place changes was the result as we all tried to negotiate the conditions. Jolly Roger did best and led from the first windward mark to the finish, whilst Jobs for the Buoys, without their star crew Wade, achieved their best result of the series, whilst an uncalled for wind shift lost us, on Vinyl Solutions, two places on the final beat

It's that sinking feeling when you know there is nothing you can do but turn for home and get the fenders and warps out !! Yes that was our story on Monday when the main halliard flew past my right ear, having wound itself up through the mast, and was now trailing serenely in the water.
It seemed to be a case of how many DNCs. Jobs for the Buoys and Crackerjack lacked crew and XP Rigging were ensconced in exams. That left just four boats to fight it out over a short legged course which kept the sail handlers busy. I watched, with envy, via the telescope in the clubhouse as Wijit took command towards the penultimate mark, perfected an excellent spinnaker down, gybe, round and harden up for home, manoeuvre, leaving Jolly Roger (thank you for the duct tape Roger), Flying Colours and Zaphod in their wake, in that order.

Hopefully, the series results are attached.

Monday 8th May

Parkstone Spring Evening Series Monday 8th May.

An interesting start line, for the nine J24s, which could only be crossed on port tack. A North Easterly is a difficult wind for which to set a course within Poole Harbour. In consequence we all headed north on starboard. Jolly Roger and Wijit were the first to tack away towards Northshore Homes and a melee occurred when the rest of us arrived.
Spinnakers up and a long run to Balls Lake but still most of the fleet were separated by very little. However, the beat back did eventually spread us out, and we, on Vinyl Solutions found ourselves mid fleet. Jolly Roger took line honours, closely followed by Wijit and Flying Colours. Jobs for the Buoys and us had a close tussle on the final beat but helm lady Holly held her nerve and we crossed about 10 seconds in front for 4th place (uncharted, but jolly exciting, territory for us!!)
